- What will I learn?
Apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to carry out a wide range of administrative tasks effectively and professionally.
They will learn how to communicate clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders using different methods such as email, phone, meetings and digital platforms, while maintaining a professional tone. They will gain experience supporting events and meetings, both in person and online, following organisational procedures.
A key focus is handling information securely. Apprentices will learn how to store, manage and retrieve data using both physical and digital systems, while maintaining confidentiality. They will also develop skills in using software tools to input, update and extract data, and in formatting information accurately, identifying and reporting any errors.
Apprentices will build strong organisational skills by supporting team activities, managing resources, and helping ensure work is completed on time, within budget and to quality standards. They will learn to gather and share information from different sources securely and appropriately.
Understanding organisational priorities is important, so apprentices will learn how their role contributes to wider goals. They will also develop problem-solving skills, recognising when to escalate issues.
Time management and workload planning are key areas of learning, alongside maintaining flexibility and responsiveness.
Finally, apprentices will be encouraged to continuously develop their skills, stay up to date with industry changes, and follow a professional development plan.
- Progression
Apprentices completing this apprenticeship can progress into a wide range of roles across different sectors. Common next steps include moving into more senior administrative positions such as Administrator, Senior Administrator or Office Manager, where they take on greater responsibility and independence.
They may also specialise in areas like HR, finance, project support or customer service, depending on their interests and workplace experience. With further training, apprentices can progress onto higher-level apprenticeships, such as a Level 3 Business Administrator or Level 4 Associate Project Manager.
- How am I assessed?
Apprentices are assessed through a mix of ongoing and final evaluation to ensure they can perform their role effectively in the workplace.
Throughout the apprenticeship, formative assessment takes place. This includes workplace observations where assessors watch apprentices complete real tasks, such as communicating with stakeholders or managing data. Apprentices also build a portfolio of evidence, including documents, emails and system records that demonstrate their skills. Regular progress reviews with their employer and tutor help track development and provide feedback. Knowledge is checked through assignments, discussions or short tests.
Apprentices also complete practical tasks and projects, applying their skills in real or simulated scenarios, such as organising meetings or producing reports. Professional discussions allow them to explain their decisions and demonstrate understanding.
At the end of the programme, apprentices complete an End-Point Assessment (EPA). This typically includes a knowledge test, a portfolio-based interview with an independent assessor, and a practical or project task.
Overall, assessment focuses on both knowledge and practical ability, ensuring apprentices are fully competent and able to meet workplace expectations.
Level 2 Administration Assistant Apprenticeship
Assistant administrators work across all sectors and organisations of any size, using transferable skills. Their main role is to complete routine administrative tasks that support day-to-day operations, following set procedures and working under supervision. They are a key part of the team, helping colleagues with duties such as data entry, handling information using digital tools, and ensuring tasks are completed on time and to the required standard.
They interact with a wide range of people, including colleagues, managers, customers, suppliers, and external agencies, and may act as a point of contact between departments such as IT, finance, and HR. Strong communication skills and the ability to respond to feedback are important.
Assistant administrators must be flexible, adapting to changing organisational priorities, and may occasionally support wider tasks within the organisation. They often handle sensitive information and must maintain confidentiality.
Overall, their responsibilities vary depending on the organisation, but their core purpose is to provide efficient administrative support to help the organisation run smoothly.
