Our Special Effects Make-Up students recently put their skills into practice during an exciting work experience project with Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust, earning outstanding feedback from clinical staff.

The students were invited to support the Trust’s Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training day at Wycombe Hospital, where they created realistic moulage effects to simulate a range of traumatic injuries for medical trainees. Their work played a key role in helping doctors practise assessments and decision‑making in lifelike clinical scenarios.

Ben Godden, Resuscitation Service Lead at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust, praised the students’ professionalism and technical ability:

“We were delighted with the excellent work your SFX college students provided during our recent Advanced Trauma Life Support course at Wycombe Hospital. The students were punctual, professional, and a real pleasure to work with throughout the day.

Their moulage application was of a very high standard, with realistic simulation of traumatic injuries on our models, including lacerations, fractures and electrical burns. This contributed significantly to the authenticity of the scenarios and greatly enhanced the doctors’ assessments and overall learning experience.

Thank you to the students involved—we were extremely impressed with both their technical skills and professional conduct. We would be delighted to continue supporting placements for your students and would love to invite them back to support our next ATLS course.”

The experience gave students an invaluable opportunity to apply their creative skills in a fast‑paced healthcare environment, collaborating directly with clinical teams and gaining insight into how SFX techniques support professional medical training.

The college is proud of the students involved and looks forward to building on this partnership with Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust to create further real‑world learning opportunities.
