Building on the success of our HND in Musical Theatre, we now offer a new Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre. The course has been created to provide a sound practical performance training which integrates strong academic and theoretical approaches to work as the course progresses. In the first year you will study singing, dancing and acting to a high standard in preparation for the entry into the Performing Arts industry. The first year also will include an introduction to critical theory and dramatic analysis. All years participate in fully staged productions as well as smaller scale workshop and staged assessments. In the second year you will form into a company and over three semesters cover specific approaches to musical theatre. These projects will cover the Classic Broadway musical, International Music Theatre and The Modern Musical. All three projects culminate in either a workshop, a performance or a final major project and fully integrate acting, singing, dance and application of theory in performance. Content All of your modules will include written assignments. However, a great proportion of the work you will undertake will be practical. Modules may include:- • Acting & Voice Studies • Dance & Movement Studies • Introduction To Critical Theory • Outreach Theatre • The Modern Musical • Music Theatre (International) • Dance Theatre • Professional Practice • The Broadway Musical Specialist facilities / resources / services Amersham Campus has a 120 seat theatre and a smaller drama studio, and at Chesham a large drama/dance studio. In addition, our rehearsal/teaching space comprises two smaller dance studios, a lecture room and black box drama studio. Most rooms have pianos and audiovisual equipment and you may book time in college spaces for private rehearsal and practice as required. You also have access to a range of resources at BCUC. Employment / progression It is possible to progress to the one year BA(Hons) Musical Theatre, which will enable you to apply for postgraduate courses at specialist drama and music colleges.

Candidates will be offered places primarily upon a successful audition/interview. However, candidates would normally be expected to have achieved a National Diploma in a related subject or A-levels or equivalent qualification prior to entry. |
