Introduction

This lively and exciting course has been developed in consultation with industry professionals. The course will encourage you to engage with and enjoy the creative process while ensuring you gain the skills, knowledge and experience to prepare you for a career in photography.

Content

Year one of the course is dedicated to providing you with all the basic skills and knowledge required to become a photographer; ranging from creative thinking to traditional and digital camera skills.

Year two continues to develop skills whilst focusing on your area of particular interest, allowing you to create a portfolio ideal for showcasing your individual talents.

Second Year Modules:
Contemporary Photography
Work Related Practice 2
Professional Practice
Major Project: Photography

The programme is divided into modules allowing the course to be taught through a range of practically based projects, encouraging you to work individually and together in groups. Teaching includes briefing sessions, formal lectures and seminars, workshops, small group critiques and individual tutorials. Assessment is continuous throughout the year.

Specialist facilities / resources / services

A dedicated base room and access to a fully equipped large open studio is available, whilst working alongside the BA (Hons) Applied Photography & Digital Imaging course creates a friendly, dynamic and professional environment. The studio facilities include a large format inkjet printer, a high resolution scanner, a digital suite with digital projector, digital SLR and medium format cameras, C41 and E6 processing facility and a black and white darkroom. Access to other facilities and workshops within the school are easily available.

Employment / progression

Successful completion of the Foundation Degree will enable you to embark upon a career in photography, or a further year of study on the BA (Hons) Applied Photography & Digital Imaging at Amersham & Wycombe College.

Entry Requirements: Photographic portfolio, sketchbooks and notebooks essential. Pass or above at Vocational A-Level, Edexcel National Diploma or Certificate or Access to Higher Education Certificate in a related subject. Non-standard qualifications considered.
