Apprenticeships & NVQs

Staying at school or following full time education does not suit everyone. For some people, a practical, hands on approach to training, and getting a qualification while working, is what they want.

Interested in an Apprenticeship?

If you want to earn while you learn, an Apprenticeship could be for you. It is a great opportunity to gain a nationally recognised trade qualification whilst in full-time employment and improve your career prospects at the same time.

What are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are work based programmes designed by employers to meet the demands of industry and to give you a chance to develop your skills alongside your job. There are two levels – an Apprenticeship at NVQ Level 2 and an Advanced Apprenticeship at NVQ Level 3.

What do you need?

You need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours in the relevant job and have your employer’s agreement. For some courses, you will need GSCE Maths and English grades A-C.

What does an Apprenticeship involve?

The length of the programme depends on the course you have chosen but is anything from 13 months to three and a half years. A qualified assessor will visit you in the workplace. You will have to attend College on day release for formal training and to improve your Maths and English, if necessary.

Apprenticeships & Advanced Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience. As an employee, you can earn as you learn and you gain practical skills from the workplace.
