College Students Present Drive Time slots on Marlow FM 97.5FM

Friday, January 6th, 2012

BTEC Extended Diploma in Media students Chris Harper, Jonny Ratner and Connor Mathews have been flooding the airwaves and expanding their understanding of live radio thanks to regular ‘Drive time’ slots on Marlow FM, the radio station which broadcasts in Buckinghamshire on 97.5FM.

After receiving some initial induction and studio familiarisation training provided by Marlow FM, the students have been presenting the show between 5.00 and 7.00pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Previous training in radio journalism and production on their Media course involved the launch of Amersham & Wycombe College Radio AWC 87.7 FM earlier this year, where they presented programmes which were broadcast around the region. Because of this they were already very familiar with studio production techniques and were well equipped for the job.

“Having our students at Marlow FM shows that Amersham and Wycombe College is not only playing a key role with the local community, but is also empowering its students with the skills that are essential in the media industry,” said Karim Ngobi, College Media Lecturer.  “The course incorporates all aspects of media, including radio and print journalism and core modules which are television and film based. This ensures our students have a thorough knowledge of the industry and that they leave us as multi-skilled individuals.”
